The houses around Northcliff hill and down through Linden, Emmarentia and Greenside have character, and so do their laundries. A washing machine here might stand in a converted outbuilding at the bottom of the garden, in a narrow laundry behind the kitchen, or tucked under the counter of a kitchen that has been redone. Old taps, old drains and uneven floors are part of the picture, and they're often part of the problem too.
A technician who checks the setup as well as the machine fixes the fault for good. Whatever you have, they come to you, find the fault where the machine stands, and tell you what the repair involves and what it will cost before any work starts.

Washing machine faults we fix in Northcliff
Door stays locked after the wash
Usually water is still in the drum, so the machine won't release the door. If the drum is empty and it stays locked well after the cycle, the door lock or its control has failed. Don't force the handle.
Rocking on an uneven floor
Old laundry floors are rarely level. A machine with one foot short rocks and bangs in the spin. Adjusting and locking the feet sorts it, and saves the shock absorbers.
Slow fill from an old tap
Stiff or furred-up taps and grit in old pipes block the inlet screen. The machine fills slowly or stops with a fill error.
Damp and dust in outbuildings
Moisture and dust get into the electrics of a machine in an unsealed outbuilding. Intermittent faults, a tripping plug point or corroded connections can follow.
Water backing up
If water comes back up the standpipe or out of the outside drain, the house drain is blocked, not the machine. Clear it, or call a plumber, before running another wash.
Not spinning
Machines won't spin with water in the drum or an unbalanced load. A worn belt or motor brushes come next. See washing machine not spinning.
Laundries in outbuildings
A machine at the bottom of the garden needs a few things to stay healthy: a dry floor, a plug point protected from rain, light to work by, and a tap that opens easily. If the outbuilding gets damp in the rainy season, lift the machine on a sturdy stand or tray so water can't pool under it.
Rodents like quiet outbuildings, and they sometimes chew drain hoses and wiring. If a machine that has been standing unused for a while leaks or won't start, check the hoses and the cable before anything else.
When the door won't open
A front loader locks its door during the cycle and keeps it locked until the drum is empty and the lock has cooled down. After a power cut mid-wash, the door can stay locked until the machine has power again and finishes or drains.
If the drum is full, drain it first through the pump filter at the bottom front. Most machines also have an emergency release, often a small cord behind the filter hatch. Use it only once the water is out, or the water comes out with the door.
Renovated kitchens
If your kitchen has been redone, the washing machine may sit under a new stone worktop with very little clearance, or behind a cupboard door. The technician slides it out carefully to reach the hoses and the pump. Mention a tight fit or a custom door when you book, and clear the floor in front of the machine.
After you book
If parking near your gate is tricky or the laundry is at the bottom of the garden, tell us when you book. Typically at your door within 60 minutes for same-day bookings. Track your technician live: when they leave, you get a live tracking link on your phone.
The technician checks the machine, the tap, the hoses and the drain, then explains the fault and the price of the repair before any work starts.
No call-out fee when we repair it.If no repair is done, a R500 call-out applies. The technician finds the fault and explains the repair before any work starts, so you decide whether to go ahead.
Book a repairWashing machine repairs in Northcliff: your questions
My washing machine door won't open after the wash. What should I do?
Wait a few minutes, then check whether there's water in the drum. If there is, drain it through the pump filter. If the drum is empty and the door is still locked, the lock has probably failed and needs a technician.
Can you repair a washing machine in an outbuilding?
Yes. The technician works on it where it stands. Make sure there's light, a working plug point and a clear path to it.
Why does my washing machine rock and bang during the spin?
Usually it isn't level, or the load is unbalanced. Adjust the feet so all four touch the floor firmly, lock them, and spread the load. If it still bangs, the shock absorbers may be worn.
Can old plumbing cause washing machine problems?
Yes. A stiff tap, a standpipe that's too short or a blocked outside drain can stop a machine filling or draining properly. The technician checks those as well as the machine.
What does a washing machine repair cost in Northcliff?
Levelling the feet or clearing an inlet screen is a quick fix. A door lock or a pump costs more, and bearings most of all. The technician prices the repair before any work starts.
