What you pay

No call-out fee when we repair it. If no repair is done, a R500 call-out applies.

When the technician has found the fault, they explain the repair and what it will cost. If you go ahead and we repair it, you pay for the repair and nothing extra for the visit. If no repair is done, the R500 call-out applies.

What changes the price of a repair

  • The part. Common parts such as door seals, filters, belts and thermostats cost far less than compressors, motors or control boards.
  • Your model. Some parts fit many machines. Others are made for one model only and cost more, or take longer to source.
  • The work involved. A part behind a front panel takes less time to reach than one deep inside a built-in appliance.
  • More than one fault. Sometimes one failure causes another. A leak that has wet a control board is an example.

Repair or replace?

A repair is usually worth it on a newer appliance, or when the fault is a common part. On an old appliance that needs an expensive part, replacing may make more sense. Our repair or replace check gives you a plain answer in under a minute, and the technician will tell you honestly if a repair isn't worth your money.

Can insurance help with the cost?

Sometimes. If an appliance was damaged by a power surge, a fire or a burst pipe, your household contents insurance may pay for the repair or a replacement, depending on your policy. Ordinary wear and tear usually isn't covered, so a pump that has simply worn out is normally yours to pay for. If you'd like to see what cover is available, OneCompare compares household contents insurance alongside car insurance. This is a referral only: we don't give insurance advice.

Price questions

How much does it cost to fix a fridge in South Africa?

It depends entirely on what has failed. A torn door seal, a blocked drain or a faulty thermostat is a small job. A failed compressor or a gas leak in the sealed system is a much bigger one, and on an older fridge it can tip the balance towards replacing it. The technician tells you which it is, and the cost, before any work starts.

Will I know the price before you start?

Yes. The technician finds the fault, then explains the repair and what it will cost before any work starts. You decide whether to go ahead. See how a repair works.

Why don't you list exact prices?

Because a price only means something once the fault is known, and we'd rather not quote a low number online that turns out not to apply to your machine. We're putting together typical price ranges from real jobs and will publish them here.
