LG is known for its direct-drive washing machines, where the motor sits right behind the drum with no belt, and for fridges with inverter compressors. When an LG appliance develops a fault, the display usually tells you where to look with a short error code.
We're an independent repair business, not an LG service centre. If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, start with LG or the shop where you bought it. Once it's out of warranty, the technician comes to you, reads the code, tests the part behind it, and tells you what the repair will cost before any work starts.
LG washing machine error codes
LG washing machines use a handful of common codes. They vary a little by model, so check your manual:
- OE: the machine can't drain. Often a blocked pump filter or a kinked drain hose.
- IE: the machine can't fill. Check the tap, the inlet hose and its filter screen.
- UE: the load is unbalanced. Spread the load out and check the machine is level.
- dE: a door problem: the door isn't closing or locking properly.
If clearing the obvious cause doesn't help, the drain pump, the inlet valve, the door lock or a sensor needs a technician. See washing machine repairs.
LG fridges
LG fridges with inverter compressors, water dispensers and ice makers have more electronics than a basic fridge. When one stops cooling, the cause is often a fan, a sensor, a defrost part or a control board rather than the compressor. Ice makers and water lines are another common source of trouble. See fridge repairs, or try our fridge not cooling checks first.
Dishwashers and dryers
LG dishwashers and tumble dryers share the usual faults of their kind: drain pumps, inlet valves, heaters and seals on dishwashers, and belts, heaters, sensors and blocked condensers on dryers. Keep the filters clean on both and many problems never start. See dishwasher repairs and tumble dryer repairs.
No call-out fee when we repair it.If no repair is done, a R500 call-out applies. The technician finds the fault and explains the repair before any work starts, so you decide whether to go ahead.
Book a repairLG repair questions
What does the error code on my LG washing machine mean?
The common ones: IE means water isn't coming in (check the tap, the hose and its inlet filter), OE means it can't drain (clean the pump filter and check the drain hose), UE means the load is unbalanced, and dE means the door isn't locking. If a code keeps coming back, book a technician.
How do I reset my LG washing machine?
Switch the machine off and unplug it, press and hold the Start/Pause button for about five seconds, then plug it back in and switch it on. That clears most temporary faults. If the same error comes straight back, the fault is real: note the code and book a technician.
Why is my LG dishwasher not turning on?
Check the plug or the isolator, the DB board, and that the door is closed firmly, because a dishwasher won't start with the door unlatched. A child lock on the control panel can also stop it. If it's still dead, a fuse, the door switch or the control board is the likely cause: book a technician.
Why is my LG fridge not cooling?
Start with the basics: the temperature setting, space around the fridge, clean coils and a door that seals. On LG fridges with a display, make sure a demo or display mode isn't switched on, because it keeps the lights on with the cooling off. If it's still warm, work through our fridge not cooling checks.
Will LG fix my fridge for free?
Only if it's covered by the manufacturer's warranty, so contact LG or your retailer to check. Out-of-warranty repairs are where we come in.
Are you an LG service centre?
No. We're an independent repairer working on LG appliances once they're out of warranty.
LG is a trademark of its owner. pink ideas repairs is an independent repair business, not an authorised agent or service centre for LG. If your appliance is still under the manufacturer's warranty, contact the manufacturer or the shop you bought it from first.
